Raymond Burr (PERRY MASON) stars in the long-running police drama

“The only excuse for a policeman to take a day off is a death. His own.” This is San Francisco’s Chief of Detectives Robert T. Ironside’s (Raymond Burr) belief – one that he comes painfully close to. A man such as Ironside, passionately detesting criminals and crime, gathers a rich harvest of dissatisfied customers in the course of a long career. Perhaps it was inevitable then that one of his revengeful “clients” would take six shots at Chief Ironside.

Now confined to a wheelchair, the unsinkable Ironside continues to work out of the Police Commissioner’s office on Special Assignment, aided by young Detective Sergeant Ed Brown (Don Galloway), Mark Sanger (Don Mitchell), Officer Eve Whitfield (Barbar Anderson), and Officer Fran Belding (Elizabeth Baur).

Starting without tangible clues, Ironside doggedly sifts the list of suspects, screens his leads endlessly, eliminates the implausible and finally pounces on his quarry.

This 56-disc set brings together the original feature-length pilot and all 8 seasons of the long-running crime drama that became Raymond Burr’s next hit series after Perry Mason, plus the 1993 reunion TV Movie ‘The Return of Ironside’.

Guest stars include Harrison Ford, Bruce Lee, Jack Lord, Susan Saint James, David Carradine, Joseph Cotten, William Shatner, Vera Miles, Martin Sheen, Bobby Darin, Jodie Foster, Rod Serling, Roddy McDowall, Cheryl Ladd, Steve Forrest, Sharon Gless, Desi Arnaz, Jessica Walter, Leslie Nielsen, William Katt, and a reunion for Raymond Burr with his Perry Mason co-star Barbara Hale.
