Spawn of the North (1938) - Imprint Collection #707

Director Henry Hathaway transports us to the icy salmon fishing waters of Alaska in Spawn of the North, starring George Raft and Henry Fonda as childhood friends on opposite sides of a dangerous feud.

Jim Kimmerlee runs an honest salmon cannery on the Alaskan coast. When his old friend Tyler Dawson reappears after years away, the two friends are drawn toward an inevitable confrontation.

Presented with a Special Academy Award in 1939 for outstanding achievement in Special Photographic and Sound Effects, this rousing late-30s slice of Hollywood adventure also stars Dorothy Lamour (Creepshow 2), Akim Tamiroff (Touch of Evil), and a scene-stealing John Barrymore (Grand Hotel). With a score by Dimitri Tiomkin (It’s a Wonderful Life) and screenplay by Jules Furthman (Rio Bravo), this is old-school Hollywood craftsmanship on full display.

Technical Specs:

  • 1080p High-definition presentation on Blu-ray

  • Audio: English LPCM 2.0 Dual Mono

  • Aspect Ratio 1.33:1

  • Optional English HOH Subtitles

Sea Devils (1953) - Imprint Collection #708

Worldwide first on Blu-ray!

A swashbuckling Technicolor adventure from director Raoul Walsh (High Sierra), Sea Devils reunites Rock Hudson and Yvonne De Carlo in a rousing tale of smugglers, spies, and Napoleonic intrigue.

In the early 1800s, fisherman-turned-smuggler Gilliatt is offered a pardon in exchange for a dangerous mission: sail to France and rescue Droucette, a beautiful British spy whose cover as a French countess has been blown. But as Gilliatt and the mysterious Droucette are thrown together across a series of increasingly perilous escapades, trust proves as treacherous as the sea itself - with Napoleon's forces closing in on all sides.

Loosely based on Victor Hugo's novel The Toilers of the Sea and shot on location in the Channel Islands and on the Brittany coast of France, this is adventure filmmaking at its most gloriously entertaining, with lavish cinematography from Wilkie Cooper (Jason and the Argonauts, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad).

Special Features and Technical Specs:

  • 1080p High-definition presentation on Blu-ray

  • NEW Video essay by writer / podcaster Suzanne Boleyn

  • Audio: English LPCM 2.0 Mono

  • Aspect Ratio 1.33:1

  • Optional English HOH Subtitles

Hurricane Smith (1952) - Imprint Collection #709

Worldwide first on Blu-ray!

Yvonne De Carlo and John Ireland star in Hurricane Smith, a sun-drenched tale of pirates, buried treasure, and the South Seas - directed by Jerry Hopper (Secret of the Incas) and based on the novel by Gordon Ray Young.

Stranded on a Pacific island, adventurer Hurricane Smith and his two companions seize a passing slave trader's ship and set course for the South Seas in search of a fabled treasure. The beautiful Luana, however, holds the key to the treasure's location and has her own reasons for keeping it secret, prompting a round of double-crosses, shark fights, and shipboard skullduggery.

With rich Technicolor cinematography by Oscar-winner Ray Rennahan (Gone with the Wind), Hurricane Smith is glorious adventure fare and an entertaining swashbuckler.

  • NEW Audio commentary by film historian and host of Cereal At Midnight Heath Holland
