Nineteenth-century Wyoming: mild-mannered theatre impresario Tom Healy is perpetually broke, largely because his leading lady Angela has an insatiable appetite for expensive clothes. Drifting from town to town with creditors on their tail, the troupe rolls into Cheyenne, where Angela juggles the attentions of the smitten theatre owner and a dangerous gunslinger who has his own reasons for tracking the company down.
