One man lives in the neighbourhood, another man owns it.
In 1960s New York, nine-year-old Calogero is torn between two worlds: that of his honest, hardworking father Lorenzo, and the one ruled by charismatic mob boss Sonny. Calogero’s double life becomes all the more complicated when he falls for an African American girl named Jane, and embarks on a dangerous romance that threatens to ignite the Bronx.
In 1990, Robert De Niro saw Chazz Palminteri’s one-man show “A Bronx Tale”, and declared it “one of the greatest one-man shows I’ve ever seen, if not the greatest”. Soon, the two men began working to adapt it into a film, with Palminteri scripting, De Niro directing, and both performing, respectively portraying the adult figures fighting over the destiny of young Calogero. Legendary film critic Roger Ebert gave it a perfect score, calling it “very funny” and “very touching”.
